Rob Gionfriddo was born in Hartford, CT and grew up in Boca Raton, FL. He graduated from the University of North Carolina and was commissioned a 2nd Lt through the UNC Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program with the Class of 1986.
He was designated an Artillery Officer following graduation from The Basic School and the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course and served in a variety of billets at the Battery and Battalion-levels in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Marine Divisions. Additional assignments included Marine Barracks Guam, 2nd Air/Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, Marine Corps Systems Command, Manpower and Reserve Affairs, and Marine Corps Mobilization Command. Rob retired from the USMCR in 2014.
Rob worked as a Management Consultant with KPMG/KPMG Consulting/BearingPoint/Deloitte Consulting until resigning in 2015 to pursue a career in the Federal civilian workforce as a Senior IT Project Manager with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in Alexandria, VA.
Rob earned a Master's degree in Systems Management from Capitol College in 1997, holds certification as both a Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) through the Project Management Institute (PMI), is a Certified Scrum Master (CSM), and served on the Southern Maryland PMI Chapter's Board of Directors.
He is a Life Member of the UNC General Alumni Association and the UNC NROTC Alumni Association and previously served on the NROTCAA's Board of Directors in the mid-1990's to early 2000's. Rob is very much interested in supporting efforts to maintain the legacy of academic and military excellence of his late classmate Captain David P. Dawson through the Dawson Memorial Library.
Rob is married to the former Jeanette Michaux (UNC School of Education, Class of 1989) and they currently reside in St. Leonard, MD. Rob and Jeanette have 2 adult children.
