2nd LT George Richard Fitzgerald United States Marine Corps
Circumstances of Death: 2nd LT George R. Fitzgerald, 22, was killed in action September 17, 1966 at Quang Tri, the northernmost province of the Republic of South Vietnam. He died of gunshot wounds received while engaged in combat with enemy forces. He is honored at the Vietnam War Memorial, Panel 10E, Row 106, in Washington, D.C. Awards: No award history available. History of Service: Lt. Fitzgerald received his officer's training under the Naval Reserve Officer Corps training program. Upon graduation from the University of North Carolina, he accepted a commission in the U.S. Marine Corps. He taught English at Warren G. Harding high school from October 1965 until he went on active duty with the Marine Corps in January 1966.
